That everyone who thirsteth for the truth may obtain it, these publications are, as a Christian service, provided without charge. They levy but one exaction: the soul's obligation to itself to prove all things and hold fast to that which is good. The only strings attached to this free proffer are the golden strands of Eden and the crimson cords of Calvary - the ties that bind.

Dear Mr. Hart and Second Tithers

BL 42

January 1969

Mr. J.P. Hart

Attorney for Second Tithers

La Grange, Texas

Dear Mr. Hart and Second Tithers,

News comes to us the Supreme Court of Texas has ruled that New Mt. Carmel property belongs to all Second Tithers who have contributed to the fund since it was established in 1935 through March 1, 1962. If in this case, Second Tithers do not sign the Waiver form (which requires Tom Street, Receiver, to issue them a "Warranty Deed" releasing him as Receiver), the property will forever remain in his control, without recourse on the part of Second Tithers. He hopes this will be the case, leaving him in absolute authority over the property. Those whom I represent will work with other Second Tithers to take charge of the property and release the Receiver of his duties.

If Davidians have any honor left, or respect for Bro. Houteff and his message, they will rise up, shake off the clouds of darkness and complacent Super-Laodiceanism, go to work for the Lord God of Jacob, and give this arrogant, uncircumcised Gentile a knockout blow with the one smooth Stone, as did David of old, then cut off the head of Goliath with his own sword. Those who do this will be Victors, inheritors of the Kingdom; hence, have eternal life. They never die.

Let us prove the Lord herewith and see if God be God or Baal. Those who fail to honor God and His truth and seek to call back that which they have given to God for the poor (second tithe) will miss the Kingdom and thus have God's curses pronounced upon them. They will be cast down and all their household with them.

"Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it. I will bring it forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof." Zech. 5:3, 4.

"The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses. What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord God of hosts." Isa. 3:14, 15.

As for me and my house, we will cooperate with you and other Second Tithers to preserve the New Mt. Carmel property for its original purpose.

We have dedicated ourselves to print all of Bro. Houteff's heretofore unpublished manuscripts and put them into the hands of Second Tithers to whom, in reality, they belong. His other works will be printed also.

I understand the forms being sent out by Tom Street's attorney, Mr. Kultgen, gives Second Tithers the choice of asking for a percentage (small) of the amount originally contributed to the fund. This means Second Tithers will be required to prove the amount of their claim if the property is sold, or get nothing.

As you know, the court record shows the property has been valued at $70,000 and that the total second tithe paid in by approximately 2700 Davidians, is set at $478,000.

You are aware that if the property is sold for $70,000, Second Tithers would receive approximately one dollar for each seven paid in, and from that amount expenses will be deducted: attorneys' fees for an expensive law firm (four years), Tom Street's attorney fees and wages since March 1962, and all court costs plus taxes for seven

Page 2

years. What a deception to think that there will be enough remaining to refund more than a pittance to the largest second tithe contributors! For example: largest contribution $14,000 divided by 7 equals $2,000, less legal fees.

It would also be a simple matter for Mr. Street's attorney (a representative of the power spoken of in Revelation 13) to secure New Mt. Carmel from him as it is in an area predominately representing the power spoken of above.

There is another mental view and heart searching angle of this situation to be considered. When we gave our second tithe to the Davidian treasury for the purpose of caring for the elderly (Deut. 14:23, 29; 16:11-14; Answerer Book 4, p. 59, 60, 64; Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 550, 551) and even our own selves in old age, we expected a blessing from the Lord (Mal. 3:10). Truly, if we are honest with ourselves and the Lord, we will admit that God has blessed us many-fold for what we have contributed to His treasury to care for those who are unable to help themselves.

If I should sign the Claim Form and ask for the return of the percentage of my tithe, would it not be saying, "Lord, I gave You my tithe for the benefit of the helpless and I am not satisfied with the blessings wherein You have blessed me. So, give me back the tithe I gave You and let the helpless manage the best they can --- 'go and be thou clothed.'"

True, there may be those who are confused, discouraged, and disappointed by past events. But (Rev. 10:9, 10), "...if we do not now anoint our eyes with the eyesalve of God, so that He does not uncover our shame (Rev. 3:18)...our bellies, too, will turn bitter." (Tract No. 16, p. 58:1), as a result of the disappointment at Mt. Carmel in 1959. It is almost unbelievable that any former Davidian, irrespective of his religious outlook at present, would ask for any portion of his tithe back, regardless of how small or large it might be, and thereby have a greater curse pronounced upon him by the Lord.

Many of our senior members are in State Institutions or with unbelieving relatives where they have no choice of a vegetarian diet or Sabbath privileges, and where they will receive the mark of the beast power, if a place is not provided by Second Tithers for them at New Mt. Carmel.

I am urging all Davidians to see "eye to eye" on this special work as set forth in Isaiah 58 so that each may prepare for the Kingdom which is to be set up in time of war and turmoil. (Timely Greetings, Vol. 1 revised, No. 24, p. 13:1) However, Bro. Houteff shows in his interpretation of the prophecies that some time after failure success would come. It is easy now to see that Inspiration's explanation of Hosea's prophecies by Bro. Houteff did not entirely apply to S.D.A., but that its first application in our day applies to Davidia in its present scattered state. "Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths. And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now." Hosea 2:6, 7.

Here is stated in no uncertain terms that before we can teach S.D.A. to reform, Davidia needs to learn that it is the Lord who brings success in His work and not her lovers. Bro. V.T. Houteff put it this way: "These verses explain God's way and power to save: Before He calls for reformation He prepares the way: He brings His church to trying and perplexing circumstances from which she cannot easily disengage herself. He brings her to a situation similar to which He brought the prodigal. He does this in order that she might be brought to realize where her support in reality comes from, to know for certain it does not come from her lovers. Then, and then only, may she do the very thing the prodigal did when he came to himself (return home)." Timely Greetings, Vol. 2, No. 21, p. 11:1 (parentheses ours)

In times past we have been inclined to apply the condition of the church, as shown in the Timely Greetings, to the Seventh-day Adventist Church; and it might well be so, if she does not hastily turn about face and start traveling in the right direction. Nevertheless, the situation of God's people as recorded herein by Hosea, and as

Page 3

previously stated, perfectly fits the Davidian S.D.A. Movement at present. However, there are plentiful opportunities for the honest Davidians to reform, and this question each should prayerfully consider.

We know not what the new year will bring with the many problems facing this Nation: the monetary system dilemma facing the New Administration --- the near collapse of the Franc in France, the Pound in England, and inflation steadily decreasing the value of the Dollar. These could very well bring on a change in the world's monetary system. With the Vietnam problem, Sunday laws could very easily bring on the false world peace. If this monetary system works out according to the enemies plans, it will result in the Nation's confiscating all our possessions: property, bank accounts, etc., in exchange for a number. If there ever was a time to prepare for the Kingdom, it is now, without further delay! To this problem, V.T. Houteff's explanation of Hosea, without question, gives us the answer – the way out of this predicament!

"Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her. And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the Valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt." Hosea 2:14, 15.

"Having brought her into as straight and embarrassing circumstances as one can be in, God promises to allure her, and to bring her into the wilderness, there to speak comfortably to her...God brings her, not into her vineyard, not in the Promised Land, but into the 'wilderness' (into the lands of the Gentiles), there to speak comfortably to her, and to help her reform. After this comforting meeting takes place she is to have her vineyards from thence (or from that place in the 'wilderness' yet in the lands of the Gentiles), and the Valley of Achor for a door of hope; there she is to sing and rejoice as in the days of her youth, and as in the day she came out of Egypt.

"The Valley of Achor, you note, is her door or hope – it is the only way out of her predicament. The valley has but one significance: it stands for a thorough purging, for destroying the sinners that are in her midst before possessing the land – her only hope of becoming a decent, respectable wife of God.

"It was in the Valley of Achor that Joshua stoned the last of the sinners in Israel – Achan and his household. Then it was that the Israelite nation was permitted to take the promised land, and the vineyard. Just such a purging as this is the church's only 'door of hope,' says Inspiration, her only escape from her present plight. Then she is to return to her former position and grace. Then she is to receive the promised blessing as verily as ancient Israel received hers. That remarkable incident in the Valley of Achor is now seen to typify the purging for the REpossession of the promised land..." Timely Greetings, Vol. 2 revised, No. 21:p. 12:1-3. (second parentheses ours)

We would draw a parallel of this incident in church history with our present Davidian dilemma.

ACHAN (from the tribe of Judah) and his household -- THE TYPE.

That which God withheld from the Israelites to be used for His Sanctuary, (the tithe) Achan took and hid it in his tent for his own use. (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 496:2) "The sins hidden from the knowledge of men will then be proclaimed to the whole world." Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 498:3.

EAKIN, Mrs. Florence (from the tribe of Judah) and her household -- THE ANTITYPE.

Page 4

Mrs. Florence Eakin (formerly Houteff) and her household – her mother, her brother, her sister-in-law with her parents, also her illegal council, took the cash out of the Second Tithe Fund (nearly $200,000) and paid it to themselves in the form of 'wage adjustments' and left the 77.86 acres and improvements at New Mt. Carmel ($70,000 – evaluation) to stand for it.

The judgment of the living is passing in review in the Sanctuary above and it concerns those who have the greatest light. Therefore, every Second Tither is being weighed in the balances of the Sanctuary as to whether he will covet the Lord's portion (the tithes) --- as Adam and Eve did in the beginning ("...the tree of knowledge of good and evil...God reserved as a constant reminder of His ownership of all." Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 6, p. 386) and were cast out of the Garden of Eden (Kingdom), and as Achan did in the wilderness and was stoned, --- and be excluded from God's Kingdom that is made up now during the Investigative Judgment of the Living. (Great Controversy, p. 426-428) "Achan...appropriated the gold and silver devoted to the treasury of the Lord..." Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 496:1.

Every individual will sign his own name to the court records in the "earth" (Waco), and it will be registered in HEAVEN. With his own pen will be fixed his destiny for eternal life or eternal death in the sight of men and angels. Each will judge himself worthy to inherit the Kingdom or to be forever cast out. "As they reject the teachings of His word, God withdraws His Spirit and leaves them to the deceptions which they love." Great Controversy, p. 431:2.

Those who have the spoil of the poor (second tithe) in their houses (tents) and those who ask for a refund will suffer the curses enjoined upon those who commit this covetous act as did Achan in the type.

From all indications, according to Timely Greetings' explanation of Hosea's prophecies, and taking into consideration the present plight of Davidia, there is no doubt but that NEW MT. CARMEL IS THIS PLACE, --- "into the 'wilderness' (into the lands of the Gentiles), there to speak comfortably to her, and to help her reform." It is certainly comforting to know that God has not forgotten us, that He will again gather us and teach us to reform. But oh, how embarrassing it has been to have the illegal Davidian Council and the Laodiceans tell us that Bro. Houteff was a false prophet and that they knew his work would come to naught! To fulfill prophecy and show the certainty of Bro. Houteff's predictions in the sight of the former Davidian Council, the Laodicean Ministry, and the Laity, all Second Tithers should get together, retrieve "the spoil of the poor" (second tithe) and restore it to the house of God --- lest by keeping silent and doing nothing we be found guilty of having "the spoil of the poor" in our houses and consequently miss the Kingdom and lose eternal life.

Why not form a Board of Trustees from the different Davidian groups in the U.S. and foreign countries and operate the property as was originally intended: to care for the worthy poor and train our young people to preach the gospel of the Kingdom set forth in the Shepherd's Rod message.

Yours for justice and judgment,

(Signed): Benjamin Roden
